CATCH IT | April 2016

April is an important month for us here in the Bay. It's the time when the rains are finishing their work, the soil around us is rich and fertile and all around us life begins to bloom.

It seems only fitting that as plants and flowers begin to emerge, we also take a moment to celebrate where they come from — which is why we are reminding everyone that Friday, April 22 is Earth Day. Art is everywhere — earth, moon and sky. Take time to do your part in giving back to this amazing place we get to call the ultimate art studio! If there are little ones in your life, teach them too the importance of treating earth and this amazing Bay with kindness. A few ideas - spend an afternoon in a local garden like Berkeley Rose Garden or San Francisco's Flora Grubb, plant a tree in a deserving urban space, channel your inner-Andy Goldsworthy by making an earthwork or up-cycle a cardboard box to a cool canvas for your next painting a la John Burgerman. Whatever you do, have fun and get creative for earth-sake!

A few April highlights: The Asian Art Museum, the BAMPFA, De Young Museum and the Oakland Art Museum all have exhibits closing mid-April. Make time to catch any that interest you before they move on. Reminder, the Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive is hosting Family Fare on the second Saturday of each month throughout spring. See details below.

Happy earth, Happy us!
